Individuals versus Society
A person may not be racist in their thought of mind but they may engage in racist behaviors without even realizing they are doing so. For example, a person may not be racist in how they think, but after an African American family moves into their neighborhood the person may sell their house to get the most monetary value before the decline of the neighborhood. By selling their house the person engaged in a racist behavior by allowing redlining of neighborhoods and discriminatory practices against African American families to exist. However, white supremacy and racial power indeed preserved over time, and racism is perpetrated by institutions and society.
Biological Aspect
Based on folk theory, there is a biological basis for racism. This means that people are different in their DNA which gives rise to different races. Though science has proven that this is not correct. If you examine evidence from people of different racism you will not find any significant difference among their genome.
Ways to End Racism
In folk theory, it states that racism will end if people are educated, or through interracial marriage. However, racism has much more societal influences. In reality, racism is a social construction which continues to exist because it is a part of our everyday life and the institutions that surround us.
