FOLK THEORY OF RACISM
This race theory takes a more individualist approach towards racism, stating that individuals are to blame for the racist practices and beliefs which exist in our culture. The theory supports the idea that people discriminate against others and that fuels racism, rather than societal constructions. It also views race as a biological category, thinking that people of different races vary on a genetic level. One interesting view of this theory is that theorists believe that segregation exists because people of the same race like to interact with and be with their own kind. Therefore, people are the ones who are creating segregation because they refuse to interact with other races.
Folk Theory says that racism can be fixed or will begin to fade out through education. The more people are aware of racist individual practices then racism will no longer be a problem. Furthermore, that interracial marriage will lead to the natural decline of racism.
